U16 Team BC Wins Gold

Team BC34-21 Win Over Winnipeg West Gives Team BC The Gold Medal

Zackari Vint had one interception for a touchdown and a fumble recovery for a touchdown as part of a 27-point first half as Team BC defeats Winnipeg West 34-21 to capture the gold medal at the 2013 Red River Cup.

Vint was named the Team BC player of the game for his efforts.

Vint put Team BC up 6-0 with his pick-six early in the first quarter. Team BC’s offence would take charge from that point with Jacob Laberge spotting Taylor Pencer with a 16-yard touchdown pass and Alexsander Akpata running for a 40-yard touchdown also in the opening half of play.

Vint would make it 27-0 for Team BC before the first half was out capitalizing on a loose ball in the end zone after a bobbled snap attempt by Winnipeg West.

After Winnipeg closed the gap to 27-7 thanks to a Trevor Wright touchdown in the third quarter, Akpata would essentially seal the deal for Team BC with his second rushing touchdown of the game early in the fourth.

Winnipeg West defeated Team BC in the lone meeting between the teams during the round robin portion of the tournament by a score of 21-16 and finished as the top team in the round robin portion of the tournament with a record of four wins and no losses.

Football BC announced today the list of 56 players who have advanced to the final cut-down stage of tryouts for the provincial under-18 tackle team (“U-18 Team BC”) that will represent British Columbia at the FBU International Games as part of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Week to be held in San Antonio, Texas in early January 2014.

The cut-down roster can be downloaded from:http://www.playfootball.bc.ca/uploads/U18TeamBC2013Cutdown56Roster.pdf.

The selected players will be invited to a final mini-camp to take place in December. The final team roster of 36 players will be named at the conclusion of the mini-camp.

The 56 players advancing to the final stage of the tryout process were primarily selected from a roster of over 120 players that attended the Team BC tryout camp held in Richmond, B.C. over the Victoria Day Long Weekend.

Of the 56 players named to the cut-down roster, 10 are returning members from last year’s U-18 Team BC that dominated the competition at the FBU International Games defeating Europe and the USA to finish the tournament with a perfect 2-0 record while out-scoring their opponents by a combined 79-32.

Team BC is led by head coach and offensive line coach Tom Kudaba (Terry Fox Ravens).
