The Vancouver Mainland Football League works to foster and promote Minor Football and Cheerleading throughout the Lower Mainland, for youth ages 6 – 18. We provide an opportunity for girls and boys to learn the game of Canadian football, keep active and physically fit, develop an appreciation for teamwork and discipline, and build life-long friendships.
Our League consists of twelve Lower Mainland associations, three Valley associations and four Vancouver Island associations, with over 2500 active players, 400 cheerleaders and approximately 500 volunteers and officials, who participate in our non-contact Spring flag league and/or our Fall tackle league.
The VMFL is a member of Football BC and the BC Community Football Association (BCCFA), which coordinates and manages both Spring flag and Fall tackle Provincial Championships, at various age groups.
Our emphasis is on participation, through safe, structured programs, delivered by our member associations . All coaches in the league must complete mandated levels of training to ensure that players receive the safest and highest quality of instruction possible. In addition to game fundamentals, coaches must also acquire basic knowledge, skills, and attitudes that contribute to his or her effectiveness in working with players.
This helps to ensure individual players are able to fulfill their potential and a safe, fun and competitive environment for all. Life exists beyond the football field and it is equally as important for us to to contribute to the development of well-rounded, civic-minded young men and women.
Fostering community spirit, good sportsmanship and academic excellence are also hallmarks our league. There are a number of activities and initiatives, such as our support of the Make a Wish Foundation, and player educational awards, which underscore our commitment to these values. My own two sons benefitted tremendously and have fond memories of their participation in community football. I hope that your children will as well. For more information about our league, contact the Association nearest you. I look forward to seeing you out on the gridiron.
