Starbowl 2012

Bantams and Midgets Display High Level Of Talent

The VMFL Bantams hosted the Valley Community Football League last month in the annual Starbowl Game where the best of each league is put on display. Neither team failed to deliver as some amazing plays were performed through the impressive line up of talent by both leagues.

This year the VMFL Bantams jumped out to a quick start thanks to an opening kick return back to the VCFL’s 5 yard line where they capitalized on good field position by adding the major. Both teams continued to fight it out in the first with the VMFL keeping the Valley off the score board until late in the third when a dive up the middle gave the VMFL their first score of the game. In the end the final score of 51-6 didn’t reflect the closeness of the game on the field as the VCFL had several long drives but came up short each time.

In Midget the two leagues merged together to form to elite teams, Team #1 Red versus Team #2 Blue. With both teams what seemed evenly matched the first quarter came to an end with a scoreless quarter. Team Blue got the first major of the game with a 45 yard pass to go up 7-0. Both teams exchanged field goals midway through the second quarter before Team Blue added a second to bring the game to a 10-6 battle with Blue on top at the end of the half.

The defenses took over in the third as both Team Red and Blue failed to move the ball until Team Red managed a dive play down near the goal line to give Team Red the lead for the first time in the game. With a 12-10 lead the Starbowl moved into the final quarter.

With time running down in the final quarter Team Blue breaks out a 75 yard scramble and scores the major to take back the lead at 16-12. With just over three minutes remaining Team Red marches the length of the field and caps off the drive with an 18 yard pass completion and recaptures the lead 19-16. With sixty seconds on the clock Team Blue takes their last chance and moves down the field. Approaching the twenty yard line Team Red picks off a pass attempt to foil Team Blues comeback and the Starbowl ends with a Team Red victory of 19-16. A thriller of a game and definitely solid entertainment to the full house crowd at Minoru Stadium.
